Welcome to
"ARMOUR DESIGN"
The ARMOUR CONSTRUCTION and HERALDRY site
This site shows the step by step construction of three complete suits of armour from the initial design stage through to the finished armour ready for display.
The images on this page are of a reproduction medieval armour in the Gothic style, the construction of which is detailed in 'Project 1', together with the completed armour shown in 'Project 2' and the cap-à-pie armour from 'Project 3'. There are hundreds of images on the site and I have tried to keep their file sizes small so the pages load quickly - even when using 'dial-up'.

The first project was originally carried out in 'real time', the various stages being posted as work progressed. Work on the armour was started in September 2003 and finished in December of that year. A second 16th. Century armour was completed at the end of October 2004 and the detailed construction is shown in a separate section ( Project 2 ).
Work on the latest completed project, a 15th. Century cap-à-pie armour, started in May 2005 and, as with the other projects, pages chronicling the construction were posted as it progressed. This armour was the most detailed of the three and has taken the longest time to make. The armour was finally completed in January 2006 and images of the finished suit are posted on the last page of this project.
In March 2006 we started building a folly and so I haven't had so much time to devote to the next armour ( it was too cold then anyway and it seems to have developed into a fairly major undertaking! ). This is to be in the form of part of a ruined castle and I have posted a number of images on a separate page on the site to show how things are progressing.
Work started on the latest armour, a late 16th. Century armour, in December 2006 and progress is shown in 'Project 4'.
In the Spring of 2004 a new section on Heraldry was added to the site. This aims to show how heraldic design can be used in the present day both for decorative purposes and as architectural embellishment.
